The JACT Durham Greek & Latin Summer School Experience

Whether you're taking your first steps in Latin or Greek, or looking to build on existing knowledge, the JACT Durham Greek & Latin Summer School has a course for you. We offer tuition at six levels in both Latin and Greek, from Beginner to Advanced, as well as a Classical Civilisation course focused on the perception of women in ancient Greek myth, and a Homer & Tragedy Reading Group. All of the courses are taught by our team of experienced tutors who come from schools and universities.

During the week, you'll receive 18 hours of tuition in a supportive and engaging learning environment. The course is designed to challenge you, but there's plenty of time to relax, make friends, and enjoy everything the JACT Durham Greek & Latin Summer School has to offer.

Beyond the classroom, you can choose from a range of optional activities and excursions, including visits to Vindolanda Roman Fort, Durham Cathedral, the Oriental Museum, and other fascinating local attractions. Afternoons feature an exciting programme of workshops, grammar clinics, lectures, and discussion sessions, giving you the chance to explore new topics and deepen your understanding of the ancient world.

In the evenings, you'll hear from expert guest speakers covering a wide variety of Classical and Ancient History subjects. The social side of the Summer School begins on the very first night, when you'll meet your tutor group and take part in our popular Ancient History Quiz. To round off the week, students come together for an evening of entertainment, making for a fun and memorable end to the course.

Whether you want to improve your language skills, to prepare for your GCSE's, A Levels, or university, or simply to explore the ancient world and meet fellow classicists, the JACT Durham Greek & Latin Summer School offers a unique and rewarding experience.
